Kardex launches PortScale, bringing real-time weight-based process automation to AutoStoreTM  ports. The solution improves inventory accuracy, detects picking errors instantly, and accelerates warehouse workflows.

Kardex announces the launch of Kardex PortScale, an innovative weighing solution designed for AutoStore ports that brings weight-based process automation to high-performance warehouse environments. The solution is celebrating its world premiere at LogiMAT 2026 in Stuttgart.

Kardex PortScale is part of the Kardex AutoStore SmartWorkStation, an integrated workstation concept that combines technologies such as the Kardex IntuitivePickingAssistant (IPA), barcode scanning, computer vision, data capturing for track & trace, and weight-based verification to support accurate and efficient picking processes.

By integrating precise weight measurement directly into the AutoStore port, PortScale enables real-time bin weighing and automated item-count verification during replenishment and picking processes. The system continuously measures bin weight, enabling instant detection of picking errors, maintaining accurate inventory data, and reducing the need for manual counting.

“We are proud to introduce PortScale as a new innovation within our AutoStore portfolio,” said Marco Pfendsack, Director Technology of AS Solutions Business Unit at Kardex. “By combining precise weight measurement with intelligent system integration, we enable real-time verification of inventory movements and create the foundation for more reliable and automated warehouse processes.”

The solution uses multiple weight sensors integrated into the port shelf to capture weight data and process it in real time with the Kardex ScaleManager. Kardex ScaleManager offers functionality to configure and monitor the scales and preprocesses the weight information to provide exact weight, count, and even location information of the item in the bin to the Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Key capabilities of Kardex PortScale include:

  • Real-time item counting during replenishment and picking
  • Continuous and precise bin weight measurement
  • Immediate detection of picking errors
  • Support for cycle counting processes
  • Detection of unintended double-picks with robots
  • Improved SKU master data and reduced shrinkage rates
  • Locating the pick or place location within bin (compartment)

The solution is particularly suited for high-throughput warehouses where accuracy, speed, and process reliability are critical, and where the cost of picking errors can significantly impact operational performance.

“PortScale expands our AutoStore ecosystem with intelligent capabilities that enhance both efficiency and transparency in warehouse operations,” said Daniel Hauser, Head of AS Solutions Business Unit at Kardex. “Continuous innovation is a key driver behind Kardex’s strong growth within the AutoStore ecosystem. With solutions like PortScale, we further strengthen our position as a trusted partner for customers looking to optimize their automated warehouse operations.

Kardex PortScale will be available for Carousel and Conveyor ports starting 24 March 2026, with pilot installations planned for selected customers later in 2026.

Visitors to LogiMAT 2026 in Stuttgart can experience the new solution as part of the Kardex AutoStore SmartWorkStation and learn how weight-based process automation can further improve warehouse accuracy and efficiency.
