Kardex Mlog extends high-bay warehouse at Aflofarm Farmacja Polska

The Polish pharmaceutical company Aflofarm Farmacja Polska Sp. z o.o., based in Pabianice, southwest of Lodz, commissioned Kardex Mlog to extend its existing automated high-bay warehouse. In addition to three new aisles, the project included a pallet-conveying technology loop and connection to the existing space, and a refurbishment of the existing pallet conveying system in the production plant area. The investment resulted in 20,016 new pallet storage spaces, doubling storage capacity and performance. The project began in August 2024 and was completed in December 2025.

“The offer submitted by Kardex was rated highest of all the tenders received for the extension of the high-bay warehouse,” explains Jakub Mieżyński, project leader for Aflofarm. “Key factors in the decision to go with Kardex were the competitive price, the depth of experience in the execution of similar projects, and the outstanding technical competence of the team,” adds Mieżyński. Another important advantage was “the opportunity to have the project carried out by Polish engineers and project managers, which enabled efficient implementation and continuous control throughout.” With complex investments such as this, it was critical that there was clear and efficient communication between all participants in the project. For this reason, it was agreed with Kardex to specify Polish as the project language. “This solution significantly simplified collaboration and noticeably accelerated implementation of the project,“ says Jakub Mieżyński. The three new aisles, totaling 20,016 pallet storage spaces, accommodate finished products, while the existing section is used for raw materials storage. The extension means that Aflofarm does not require an external warehouse, and the company saves significant space in one hall on the factory premises where picking will be carried out in the future.

The core of the investment consists of three stacker cranes of type Kardex MSingleB-1300/36-ZT. With a height of 36 meters, these represent an extremely effective and sustainable use of space. The load handling devices enable double-deep storage and retrieval with a load capacity of up to 1,300 kg. The drive commands are generated by a state-of-the-art control (SPS) of type Siemens S7. The automated conveying technology with 79 drives ensures seamless connection to the existing warehouse. For the material flow system (MFS), Kardex Mlog has programmed an interface to the existing material flow controller (MFC). The new plant was commissioned without disrupting ongoing operations at Aflofarm.
