Kardex Supports Codale Electric Supply (a Sonepar company) with High-Performance Distribution Center in Las Vegas

Kardex has successfully delivered an advanced automation solution for Codale’s new central distribution center (CDC) in Las Vegas, enabling the consolidation of three regional operations into a single, high-performance fulfillment hub. The project supports Codale’s strategic growth while establishing a scalable automation model for its parent company, Sonepar, the world leader in B2B electrical distribution.

Following Codale’s acquisition of NEDCO in 2023, Sonepar-operated brands Codale, QED, and NEDCO were managing separate facilities in the Las Vegas market. To improve efficiency, accuracy, and service levels, Codale built a new CDC designed to support both regional brand replenishment and high-volume same-day Will Call orders for local electrical contractors.

Operating near the Las Vegas Strip presented significant space constraints, making dense storage and efficient workflows essential. Kardex engineered a compact Goods-to-Person automation solution centered on AutoStore™ technology and orchestrated by Kardex FulfillX Warehouse Execution Software. Within just 5,500 square feet of grid space, the system stores nearly 9,700 SKUs while maintaining fast access to inventory.

FulfillX acts as the digital control tower for the facility, managing inbound storage, order sequencing, picking, packing, and outbound flows in real time. The software balances workloads across multiple workstations, allowing the CDC to process regional replenishment orders and same-day Will Call orders simultaneously without bottlenecks. Integrated cartonization further optimizes packing by determining the most efficient box size for each other, reducing corrugated waste and freight costs.

At each workstation, the Kardex Intuitive Picking Assistant (IPA) provides visual, step-by-step guidance to operators, enabling faster onboarding, improved ergonomics, and consistently high picking accuracy. Since go-live, the system has delivered measurable results, including a 12% increase in standard order throughput and 20% faster Will Call processing.

Beyond immediate performance gains, the Las Vegas CDC serves as a repeatable blueprint for future Sonepar facilities across North America. The modular AutoStore design allows additional robots and ports to be added ad demand grows, while the FulfillX-driven architecture provides a standardized foundation for scalable automation.

“The success of this project demonstrates how the right combination of automation, software, and orchestration can transform distribution operations—even in spaces-constrained, high-demand markets,” said Fred Fox Jr., President of Kardex Solutions – Americas. “Together with Codale and Sonepar, we’ve created a future-ready model that supports growth, efficiency, and sustainability.”
