The LR 35 Vertical Buffer Module – Innovation for cost-effective inventory management
With Intralogistics under pressure in terms of efficiency, there is a need for more flexibility to stock a wider range of items within a smaller space, and guarantee faster retrieval times. At the same time, storage and handling requirements are increasingly shifting towards bins. To cope with these demands, Kardex Remstar has developed a new generation of storage systems, which offer high order picking performance , while consuming little energy and occupying little space.
The LR 35 Vertical Buffer Module is an innovative solution for spare parts inventory management, but what was the experience for an early adopter of the LR 35? For Kardex customer Schrauwen, they became one of the first to purchase and install the LR 35 as an order picking solution for articles. This brought together the technology of the mini load ‘storage’ system, with an integrated order picking station. The principal aim was to align the storage of a large number of articles supplied by an automated mini load system with the speed of an order preparation station. Besides its high picking performance, the Kardex Remstar LR 35 occupies less space and consumes much less energy than a mini-load system. If a mini-load system is capable of a maximum of 130 double cycles, for example, the LR 35 can perform up to 500 order lines per picking station/hour while occupying just 60 percent of the space. Further, the LR 35 consumes just a third of the energy of a mini-load system due to its lightweight design.
The LR 35 is designed for fast retrieval making it the perfect fit for spare parts and MRO inventory handling, which can be expensive. According to the Pareto principle, 80 percent of a company’s revenue is generated with just 20 percent of its inventory. In contrast to fast movers, medium and slow moving goods (often spare parts or MRO inventory) comprise a high percentage of process, storage, and picking costs. This is why it is essential for them to be stored efficiently, and available as quickly as possible when needed.
Kardex have a long history of innovation introducing solutions such as the Shuttle XP, the Megamat and for offices the popular Lektriever. They continue to work with organisations that recognise the short and long-term benefits that automated storage and retrieval systems can bring, delivering on the promise of improvements in labour, space saving and faster picking times.
