Vekoma, a global leader in steel roller coaster manufacturing, has successfully doubled its warehouse productivity after implementing an advanced storage solution from Kardex.

Due to rapid growth, Vekoma needed a new facility with a warehouse that could seamlessly integrate with assembly and quality control processes. The goal was clear: increase capacity, improve efficiency, and eliminate picking errors.
“In the old warehouse, too much time was lost searching and walking,” explains Roger Hanssen, Unit Manager Warehouse & Distribution at Vekoma. “Often, a single part was hidden among twenty crates on a pallet – a recipe for mistakes and delays.”
To address these challenges, Vekoma adopted a smart warehouse strategy featuring three zones, one fully equipped with Kardex Shuttle XP systems. Two existing units were upgraded, and six new Shuttles were added, creating a total capacity of 45,000 storage locations.
The correct tray automatically moves forward, the screen displays the required quantity, and a laser pointer highlights the right bin. This streamlined approach has minimized errors, reduced search time, and doubled productivity within three months.
Additionally, the vertical storage solution eliminated the need for an extra floor, resulting in significant construction cost savings. “Reliability was another key factor,” adds Hanssen. “In ten years, we’ve had only 30 minutes of downtime.”
